Maya Hawke and Ethan Hawke are related. Maya is the eldest daughter of Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman.

Who are Maya Hawke’s parents?

Maya’s mom and dad are actors Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke. They were one of the hottest Hollywood couplings in the late 90s, along with Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman.

Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke met in 1996 on the set of Gattaca, a sci-fi movie released in 1997. They tied the knot in 1998, a couple of months before July when Maya was born, and had another child, Levon, who was born a year prior to their separation. Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman formally got divorced in 2005.

To say that Maya’s parents are Hollywood giants is not an exaggeration. Her mother, Uma Thurman, is well-known for playing Poison Ivy in 1997’s Batman & Robin with George Clooney and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Ethan Hawke

Ethan Hawke broke out in the late 80s for playing Todd Anderson in the movie Dead Poets Society. At 19 years old, he was able to hold his own acting alongside Robin Williams, who was excellent in both comedic and dramatic acting.

His star rose quickly during the early 90s with lead roles in now classic movies Reality Bites (with Winona Ryder and Ben Stiller), Before Sunrise, and Gattaca. In 2001, he starred opposite Denzel Washington in Training Day, for which he earned an Oscar Best Supporting Actor nomination.

Post-Divorce

Fans were shocked and saddened when the former power couple announced their separation in 2003. Many people looked up to them for being able to juggle thriving acting careers while raising a family.

Cheating rumors between Ethan Hawke and the family nanny Ryan Shawhughes swirled around immediately after the separation but Hawke denied them. In 2005, after his divorce from Uma Thurman was finalized, Ethan Hawke started going public with Ryan. Ethan and Ryan quietly tied the knot in 2008 and share two daughters together.

Uma Thurman was previously married to fellow actor Gary Oldman years before meeting 

Hawke. Thurman met Oldman, who is 12 years older than her, on the set of the 1990 movie State of Grace. They were married for two years.

After her divorce from Hawke, Uma Thurman found love again in 2007 with Arpad Busson, a French financier based in London. Their relationship was quite tumultuous, with engagements, breakups, and reconciliations for several years.

Busson and Thurman share a daughter together, Rosalind Arusha Arkadina Altalune Florence Thurman-Busson, born in 2012.

While their surnames may sound and look (save for a missing -e at the end) the same, Maya Hawke and Tony Hawk are not related. The pro skateboarder was born and raised in San Diego, California while Maya’s dad Ethan was born in Austin, Texas, and grew up in Princeton Junction, New Jersey.
