WHILE some of the celebrities are clearly struggling in the South African jungle, Paul Harragon’s wife says the rugby league great won’t crack under the pressure and will stick it out until the end.

Three weeks into the six week series, Harragon, 47, is bookies favourite to win I’m A Celebrity ... Get Me Out Of Here!

“I’ve seen him go through blood sweat and tears for the (Newcastle) Knights and he played with a broken cheek bone for Australia, there’s absolutely nothing that will make him quit,” Harragon’s radiographer wife, Pam, said.

“It’s way too early to be saying who is going to win since there’s so many left and they’ve all got such great strength and reasons to love who they are. He is a very driven person and would be focusing on why he’s there, which is (raising money for) the Mark Hughes Foundation, and of course making his family proud.”

Comedian Akmal Saleh struggled early on in the series and was voted out last week.

After a strong start, Shane Warne appears to be cracking under the pressure while Laurina Fleure has asked producers to check her contract after an argument with the cricketer in the camp.

Harragon is currently camp leader, responsible for delegating chores and sorting any issues that come up. He’s risen to the challenge and hasn’t shied away from stepping in to difficult situations, mediating for his fellow celebrities.

“If I’m looking for him to team up with me and have a whinge as well, he never does,” she said.

“Obviously he is happy for people to have opinions but as far as being personal or attacking someone, it really upsets him. He is very much the type of person, his parents taught him that how you treat other people is how you can really judge a person.”

She added: “He is that nice and it might be boring but we love boring. Paul would be so blown away by the number of people supporting, that would literally bring him to tears.

Pam, 42, has watched every episode of the reality show, quietly barracking for her husband from the couple’s Newcastle home.

The couple are parents to Daniel, 14, Luke, 18, and Emily, 19, who lives in Auckland.

“He’s very much the alpha male. Paul is a very measured person so he really thinks about things and thinks about both sides of the equation. He is a very balanced person. He’s a real thinker which I think people would be surprised to know. He is sensitive, he does take things that people say and do to heart.”

Harragon has lost more than 10kg in the first three weeks of the show, something his wife says would be worrying him.

“He said on the show he looks like a pencil and that to me means he’s upset with how he looks,” she said.

“He likes to feel strong. He works so hard at being big, gaining muscle and eating often because he’s got a really fast metabolism. He would absolutely be upset about losing that weight.”
